The 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games was held from March 14–21 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The World Games brought together more than 7,000 athletes from 170 countries to compete in 24 individual or team sports and engage in a spirit of inclusion, sportsmanship and inspiration. More than 2,500 coaches and 20,000 volunteers also attended to lend their support, making the World Games the largest international sporting and humanitarian event of the year.
The World Games are hosted once every two years, rotating between Summer and Winter Games, and represent the pinnacle event for Special Olympics athletes. The World Games in Abu Dhabi will mark the first time that the event has been hosted in the Middle East/North Africa region since Special Olympics was founded in 1968.
As with all Special Olympics programs and activities, the World Games experience is offered 100 percent FREE of charge to the athletes. We need your help in raising the funds to cover costs associated with travel, accommodations, equipment and more for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
