Representatives from Special Olympics Nevada joined delegates from around the country in a visit to Washington D.C. this month to meet with government leaders and advocate on behalf of Special Olympics.
Special Olympics Global Ambassador Hannah Schieferstein joined Special Olympics Nevada COO Ilisa Kessler on Capitol Hill to meet with the offices of: Congressman Mark Amodei; Congresswoman Jacky Rosen; Congresswoman Dina Titus; Senator Harry Reid; and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto.
The delegation was also joined at a private dinner event by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who attended to hear first-hand from athletes, partners, family members, and SOI and program leadership on the impact Special Olympics has made on their lives and why continued federal support is critical to the work in education and schools. Secretary DeVos attended at the invitation of Special Olympics and Chairman Tim Shriver. This was the first time a current U.S. Secretary of Education has participated in Hill Day.
