In order for athletes to perform at their best, both on and off the playing field, we believe promoting a healthy life style to our athletes is critical to their success. The Healthy Athletes program is dedicated to providing health services and education to Special Olympics athletes and changing the way health systems interact wth people with intellectual disabilities. Our Summer Games is the perfect venue to introduce and educate our athletes on healthy living. The disciplines that will be offered are Special Smiles, Fun Fitness, Health Promotion, MedFest and Strong Minds. The athletes will rotate through different stations and learn about proper health care from trained clinicians for each of the disciplines offered. The Healthy Athlete clinics are available on Saturday, May 31 at the Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm .
Summer Games would not be complete without the Saturday night Victory Dance. A favorite among our athletes, the dance provides athletes the chance to reconnect with old friends, make new ones and dance to the latest tunes provided by the deejay. The dance will be located in front of the Knowledge Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR).
