Who we are:  Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) is dedicated to enriching the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities through sports, education and athlete health. We are a nonprofit organization offering free year-round training and competition programs for 3,253 athletes who compete in more than 60 competitions in 10 sports annually. Within the Community Sports and Unified Champion School Program, SONV encourages the growth of Unified Sports®, bringing together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities to play as teammates. In addition, SONV impacts more than 62,000 students each year by promoting inclusion on school campuses. SONV is committed to improving the overall health and well-being of individuals with intellectual disabilities through Healthy Athletes events, offering screenings and services free of charge.

What you will do:   Reporting to SONV’s Senior Director of Programs & Partnerships and based in Northern Nevada, the Programs Manager will oversee the community sports program and assist with the Unified Champion Schools program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Promote athlete participation within the region, start new teams, and recruit new coaches while managing current coaches and existing teams.
  • Organize and execute competitions.
  • Assist with the Unified Champion School Program.
  • Assist in management, expansion and implementation of the Special Olympics Unified Strategy for Schools in both existing and new program areas.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining relationships with both state and local level associated partners.   

Skills and Experience

You’ll be a strong candidate for this position if you have:

  • Have a passion for the Special Olympics mission of promoting inclusion through sports.
  • Ability and willingness to work from home.
  • Experience working with volunteers and people with disabilities.
  • Excellent computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; experience with relational databases such as Salesforce a plus.
  • Strong organization skills, including attention to detail.
  • Willingness to take direction and also work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Discretion and independent judgement to creatively problem solve.  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Some schedule flexibility, including the ability to work nights and weekends based on the sports and competition season.

Job Title:  Unified Champion Schools Intern 

Reports To:  Schools Partnership Program and Sports Manager

Office Location:  Las Vegas

Job Description:

Special Olympics Nevada (SONV) provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in life.  SONV also provides a Unified Champion Schools Program on local campuses with the goal of activating young people and giving them the tools, skills, and opportunities to build change and to motivate their schools to have true cultures of inclusiveness. SONV is currently seeking a Unified Champion Schools Intern, to work under the supervision and guidance of SONV’s Senior Director, Nevada Programs and Partnerships. The Unified Champion Schools Intern will gain training and hands-on experience with planning inclusive school programs in the Greater Las Vegas area.
