Special Olympics Nevada holds four program championships every year. These events are the culmination of an athlete's training and competition cycle. In order to compete in a program championship, an athlete must have qualified at the local and regional levels. |

SUMMER
GAMES - UNLV Over 300 athletes gather in May for Special Olympics Nevada's annual Summer Games. The Summer Games take place at the UNLV campus and at Fern Adair Conservatory of the Arts in Las Vegas. Over 400 Special Olympics athletes and coaches from Nevada who compete in aquatics, track & field, and gymnastics. An opening ceremony showcasing the parade of athletes and Olympic style torch lighting kick off the weekend's festivities. The fun continues with a full day of competition on Saturday and dance Saturday night. A traditional closing ceremony signals the end to a wonderful weekend. back to top |

WINTER
GAMES - Kirkwood Winter Games are designed as the culmination of the Special Olympics Nevada Winter Sports Season. Winter Games are an annual multi-sport, multi-day, Olympic style event held in the world-class setting of Kirkwood Ski Resort in Lake Tahoe. The event kicks off with fireworks and cheers as members of the Kirkwood ski patrol ski the torch downhill in a torch relay display. Athletes are housed in the resort condos and prepare meals together with teammates amidst the bucolic surroundings. Competition includes downhill and cross-country skiing as well as snowboarding and snow shoeing. |
