Fundraising Activities: Year Round
Actual Run: Friday, June 6, 2008
The
mission of the Nevada Law Enforcement Torch Run, in partnership
with our communities, is to support Special Olympics Programs
through fund raising and public awareness, while enhancing the
quality of life of our athletes. Over 500 members of law enforcement
agencies from Federal, Military, State, County and Local agencies
participate in the Torch Run campaign. It is a year round fund-raising
campaign that culminates every year at the Special Olympics Nevada
Summer Games in June. The Special Olympics Summer Games celebrate
the end of the spring sports season, bringing together over 400
Special Olympics athletes throughout Nevada to compete in a variety
of different sports. The games officially begin after the final
leg of the torch run has been completed and the "Flame of
Hope" lights the Special Olympics caldron during Opening
Ceremonies.
Funds are raised through a variety of activities, such as: Cops
on Doughnut Shops, Tip-A-Cops, Golf Tournament, World's Largest
Truck Convoy and T-shirt sales. The Law Enforcement Torch Run
has become the single largest supporter of the Special Olympics
training and competitions opportunities that are available to
over 3,000 developmentally disabled children and adults throughout
Nevada.
Last year, $140,000 was raised as a result of these dedicated
law enforcement personnel. To find out more information on
